Overall 2010 Crime Declines in Communities Policed by the LASD *Updated Statistics*

Tuesday December 28, 2010 8:24 AM PST Homicides: Year by Year 1960-2010 in Communities Policed by the LASD on www.lasd.org http://bit.ly/eWgKUK Homicides, 1960‐2010 (Year To Date, Dec. 19, 2010) - Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department patrol area The below chart documents the number of homicides in the unincorporated communities and 42 contract cities policed by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department for 50 years starting with 1960 (click on the hyperlink to www.lasd.org): The homicide "ratio" is not reflected as it does not show the substantial changes in population over the past 50 years in the areas policed by the LASD. This report also does not include the tragedy and description of the circumstances of each homicide. Homicides since 1960 in communities policed by the LASD: 473 homicides in 1995 – the highest number of homicides since 1960 2010 *176 homicides as of Dec. 19, 2010

Through to the end of November, 2010, over 100 pages of details showing reported crime statistics for the unincorporated communities and 42 contract cities policed by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department can be found at www.lasd.org Visit the "Crime Prevention and Information" page or access them directly at http://file.lacounty.gov/lasd/cms1_148405.pdf ) These include year-to-date (as of the end of Nov. 2010) reported crime statistics compared to 2009 and compared to five years ago (2005). Reported crimes for each sheriff's station and city include homicides, robberies, burglaries, etc. (To review the statistics, open the file, right click with your computer mouse and use the search engine.) As of the end of November 2010, preliminary crime data shows that criminal homicides in Sheriff's patrol areas have decreased by 12.5 percent, compared to the same year-to-date period last year (191 homicides last year compared to 169 this year as of the end of Nov.). This follows a five-year continuous decrease, resulting in a 50.49 percent decrease in homicides compared to five years ago, and the lowest homicide rate since 1975. Mike Parker, Captain | ||
